The collection of contemporary ceramics

« Le panorama des acquisitions du musée Bernard-Palissy constitue une photographie prise sur le vif de la création céramique de notre époque. C’est un peu comme si on feuilletait les pages d’un journal d’actualités encore récentes, dont le temps n’aurait fait qu’entamer le tri. La collection de Saint-Avit n’a pas beaucoup d’équivalent dans le paysage céramique contemporaine ».
Bernard Bachelier

The collection of contemporary ceramics

Most of the collection of contemporary ceramics has been purchased by the municipality or the association of the Friends of the Museum in the course of the organised exhibitions, with the intention that the museum preserves a witness of the reflections of the artists on a theme, or a technique, at a given moment. Other works originate from the “Palissy Prize”, awarded during the course of the pottery fair. Donations of works by the artists, collectors and friends of the museum complete the collection.

« The result is obviously a heterogeneous collection, strongly anchored in the reality of contemporary ceramic life. It is in this light that it should be approached. It is a collection which encourages curiosity and discussion. A stimulating collection ».
Bernard Bachelier

Discovering the collection

Pending the acquisition of the necessary space, the contemporary ceramic collection is not on permanent exhibition.

It can nevertheless be enjoyed thanks to the museums’ two catalogues raisonnés.
> See the catalogue

The collection can also be made available, in part or quasi-totality, to museums or contemporary ceramic exhibitions. (See the museum for conditions)

Gifts to the museum

The museum is authorised to receive gifts of works by artists, collectors and private donors. An acquisition committee determines the interest of a proposed donation to the contemporary ceramics collection.
